Jermaine Goodman: Behind the Chair
By Sara Girard
Jermaine Goodman, a Brooklyn native, never expected to fall in love with Gainesville's small town vibe. The licensed master barber has come to love University of Florida football games where "everyone is like your cousin." But by the end of the month, The Barber Shop and six other businesses in the same strip on W. University Ave. will close their doors before they are eventually demolished and replaced with student apartments. In the next few weeks, he hopes to find a job barbering nearby so he can maintain some of his customers.
“Even if I love the next barbershop, it won’t be here,” Goodman said. “It’s going to take some adjustment.”
