Nate Quinn: Understanding Gender
By Sara Girard
Nate Quinn, 19, considers himself lucky. On most occasions he can pass as a cisgender man without anyone knowing he's transgender, and his family is very accepting of his identity. But sometimes the dedicated activist and Pride Student Union vice president needs a break. "I'm very happy to educate people, but I have those days where I'm just done with it," Quinn said. "I just want to blend in." He has learned the world has not become as accepting as he thought. Last year, he moved out of his residence hall to escape emotional hardship and verbal attacks from his roommate, and soon he'll be protesting the arrival of white supremacist Richard Spencer on UF's campus.
